From backyard gardens and sidewalk tables to lively patios and cozy outdoor setups, Kearny’s dining scene comes alive in the warmer months, offering a wide range of cuisines and atmospheres perfect for dining al fresco.

Whether it’s craft cocktails and small plates at Q’tal Bar & Grill, family-inspired Mediterranean fare at Torshi, Asian fusion in a playful garden setting at Curiosity by Nest, Brazilian specialties and cocktails at Cantina da Serra, or Italian classics at Mr. Nino’s, these local spots highlight the variety and flavor that define Kearny’s outdoor dining experience. Together, they offer residents and visitors alike a chance to enjoy everything from casual bites to full meals in inviting open-air settings across town. Kearny Life highlights some of its favorite outdoor dining experiences.

Q’tal Bar & Grill
Q’tal Bar & Grill brings a multicultural twist to New American cuisine, paired with a strong lineup of craft cocktails, wine, and beer. Its private outdoor space is an ideal setting for a popular happy hour, offered daily from 4–7 p.m., with cocktails and wine starting at $7 and draft beers at $4.

The menu is wide-ranging, with happy hour appetizers including truffle fries topped with Parmesan ($7), Angus sliders ($10), Brazilian pastel filled with shrimp and leeks in a creamy cheese sauce ($14), and mussels in white wine sauce ($9). Weekly specials keep things lively, with Taco Tuesdays featuring discounted tacos and half-priced margaritas and sangria, and Pasta Thursdays offering homemade pasta dishes and half-price bottles of wine. Of course, their full menu is an experience for any foodie. Al fresco dining begins in April.

Torshi Mediterranean Grill
Torshi Mediterranean Grill is rooted in family tradition, inspired by the flavors and recipes passed down from the owners’ grandparents. Named after the pickled vegetables often found on their family table, Torshi reflects a commitment to bold, authentic Mediterranean flavors. Guests can enjoy a vibrant spread of hummus, tzatziki, baba ganoush, warm pita, olives, feta, and roasted red peppers, with options to add falafel, grilled chicken, or lamb kofta. Customer favorites are the Chicken Shawarma Bowl, Falafel Pita Pocket, and King Tut Falafel.

Bowls start at $17, while favorites like lentil soup ($6) and a falafel sandwich ($7) offer quick, affordable options. A variety of sides, including hummus and stuffed grape leaves, round out the menu. And baklava and rice pudding are on the menu for dessert. The restaurant also offers halal and vegan options, ensuring something for everyone. Dining outside will begin when the weather is consistently warmer.

Curiosity by Nest
Curiosity by Nest offers a magical backyard garden setting (especially when the fireflies take flight) and a lively, family-friendly atmosphere centered around Asian fusion and Japanese cuisine. The menu features favorites like tonkotsu ramen, Korean fried chicken ($13), salmon teriyaki ($20), and chicken or fish curry ($13), alongside a standout vegan kabocha pumpkin curry.

For dessert, guests can enjoy refreshing bingsu ice cream. Sushi is available on weekends, and the space also includes a playful indoor area designed for families to relax while dining. Al fresco dining begins in April.

Cantina da Serra

At Cantina da Serra, the menu offers a flavorful journey through Brazil’s diverse culinary landscape.

Owner Wesley, a professional chef who has operated restaurants in Brazil, oversees the kitchen, bringing authenticity and experience to every dish. The menu features traditional favorites such as Brazilian steak with onions ($34), deep-fried chicken ($10), codfish cream ($30), alongside a range of steak and seafood options. A standout starter is the popular salmon bites appetizer ($18). For dessert, diners can choose between classic or chocolate flan.

Behind the bar, the drink menu highlights the iconic caipirinha made with authentic Brazilian cachaça, along with a selection of beers and wines. Paired with the restaurant’s warm, inviting atmosphere, the experience evokes the relaxed charm of a warm Brazilian evening. Outdoor dining will open up in May.

Mr. Nino’s III Brick Oven Trattoria
Mr. Nino’s III Brick Oven Trattoria delivers classic Italian comfort food in a cozy, neighborhood setting. Known for its brick oven pizza, the restaurant also offers a wide menu of traditional pastas, seafood, and baked dishes. Outdoor tables under awnings create a relaxed dining experience, while friendly service adds to its local charm.

Favorites include garlic knots, seafood salad ($11), chicken francese ($17), mussels in red or white sauce ($10), calamari ($13), and old-fashioned meatball or Italian sausage parmigiana ($17), and a variety of eggplant dishes ($15–$17). Hearty portions and classic desserts like tiramisu make it a go-to spot for a satisfying meal—with leftovers likely. No need to head to Little Italy for Italian classics when Mr. Nino’s is down the street. Dining outside will begin in May.
