Your Kearny Life weekend guide: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 5-7

Looking for something to do this weekend? From family-friendly movies and magic shows at the Kearny Public Library to great food during Kearny Eats!, there’s no shortage of activities to enjoy. You can also check out a nearby food truck festival, enjoy an evening of chamber music under the stars, or celebrate Portugal Day with a flag raising ceremony and parade right here in Kearny. Here’s your Kearny Life guide to some of the best local events happening Friday through Sunday, June 5-7.

As part of the Kearny Library’s Summer Film Series, Friday, June 5, the Library will be  showing The Little Mermaid (G / 83 minutes)  A great movie for young and old. Shown on the lower level of the Main Library at 318 Kearny Avenue. Snacks and light refreshments will be served. All are welcome. Movie starts at 4:00 pm. https://kearnylibrary.org/events/.

Calling all kids! This Saturday, June 6 take a trip to The Kearny Public Library, located at 318 Kearny Avenue and have an hour of pure fun. The Library is having their Spring Magic Show with Island Magic. This family friendly magic show is geared towards children 4 and up. The show is from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. https://kearnylibrary.org/events/.

Just over the bridge into Belleville this Saturday from 12:00pm-8:00pm is the Belleville Food Truck Festival. Admission is FREE and it’s being held at Belleville Municipal Stadium. The event is by Just Jersey Fest.

Gourmet food, drinks, margarita and sangria garden, music and kids activities will make a great day for the whole family! There will be 16 gourmet food trucks, DJ Ray Colon, vendors, kid’s activities will include a bounce house, slide, pony rides, petting zoo, face painting, sand art and more.

Don’t forget this weekend, KearnyEats! is back. Starting this Friday, June 5 and running through June 21 this annual Kearny event will feature over 20 Kearny food restaurants and eateries. All your favorite businesses are participating as well as some new ones.

Everyone is invited to take advantage of dozens of food and beverage deals and special menu items from participating local Kearny food businesses – from restaurants to bakeries, cafes, bars and more! If you don’t mind a short twenty minute drive into Montclair you can enjoy an evening of music this Saturday, June 6 starting at 7:30 pm at Anderson Park . This is an open-air concert featuring music from the Chamber Music Society of Montclair. They will be playing Felix Mendelssohn’s String Octet. Bring a blanket and plan a picnic and enjoy a relaxing evening of music under the stars!

Mayor Carol Jean Doyle and the Kearny Town Council invites everyone to celebrate Portugal Day on Sunday, June 7, 2026. A flag raising ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. at American Revolutionary Bicentennial Park. The ceremony will feature a traditional children’s folklore dance performance.

The Portugal Day parade will begin at 11:00 a.m. in front of Town Hall and proceed north on Kearny Avenue then east of Quincy Avenue and ends at the Portuguese Cultural Association at 408 Schuyler Avenue. Everyone attending the ceremony is invited to join the parade immediately following the performance.
