Kearny Kravings returns for a second Hispanic Heritage food tour

INFORMATION PROVIDED BY KUEZ

KEARNY, NJ — This Hispanic Heritage Month, visitors are invited to discover a side of Kearny
they may have never experienced before—through its food, its small businesses, and the
stories of the people behind them.

Kearny Kravings: Hispanic Heritage Food Tour returns September 26 and 27 for its second
edition, presented through a partnership between the Kearny Urban Enterprise Zone (KUEZ)
and Beyond the Plate Food Tours. This year’s experience features a completely new route,
with a 14-passenger bus allowing guests to visit locally owned Hispanic businesses that are too
far apart to reach on foot.

The three-hour culinary experience will take guests to several Hispanic-owned food businesses
throughout Kearny, with tastings and stories highlighting the cultures, traditions, and
entrepreneurs behind the food, really giving guests an opportunity to discover the people and
personalities shaping Kearny’s culinary landscape.

“Kearny is one of those places that people could drive through without realizing how much is
actually here,” said Linda Kraus D’Isa, KUEZ Coordinator. “This tour is about changing that!”

“We want people to discover these businesses because the food is good, the owners are
incredible, and the stories are worth knowing,” added Alessia Aron, founder of Beyond the Plate
Food Tours.

That sense of discovery is at the heart of Kearny Kravings. For Hispanic Heritage Month,
Kearny Kravings celebrates that diversity through food—not simply as something to taste, but
as a way to experience culture, family traditions, entrepreneurship, and community, Aron noted.

The event builds on the success of last year’s two Kearny Kravings experiences: the
International Dessert Crawl and the inaugural Hispanic Heritage Month Food Tour. However,
this year’s tour offers a completely different experience, with new businesses, a new route, and
the opportunity to see more of Kearny by bus.

And while the tour is designed to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Aron hopes guests walk
away with something beyond the food.

“These aren’t businesses we want people to support because they’re struggling,” she said.
“They’re businesses we want people to discover because they’re good.”
