[Press Release] – On April 21, 2026 Kearny High School held it’s second annual Career and College Information Day in the High School gymnasium. Representatives from 39 different higher education institutions, industries, local businesses and government sectors engaged directly with the student body providing them with a comprehensive look into their future possibilities.
The event served as a bridge between classroom learning and real-world application, allowing students to interact with professionals from organizations such as the FBI, American Airlines, United Airlines and the New Jersey State Police.
“We were thrilled to host this event for the second year and provide our students with a meaningful experience to explore fulfilling career paths,” Assistant Principal Richard C. Tietjen said. “We hope that by showcasing the diverse opportunities available in these fields, we inspired the next generation of professionals and helped guide them toward their educational goals”.
Local radio and broadcast outlets, including Televisa Univision Media and 96.3 El Ritmo, were also in attendance to answer students’ questions about their respective fields and experiences. Universities were well-represented by institutions including Montclair State University, Rutgers Newark, NJCU and Rowan College, alongside technical schools like Lincoln Tech and the Universal Technical Institute.
Several KHS alumni returned to their alma mater as participants to share their professional journeys, representing organizations such as Ramapo University, the Kearny Police Department, the Hudson County Office of Corrections, the Passaic Valley Water Commission, the Kearny Fire Department, Weaver Assurance Tax Advisory and the Hudson County Sheriff’s Department. These alumni interactions provided students with a firsthand look at how a Kearny High School education serves as a foundation for professional success within their own community.
The day focused on hands-on engagement, with organizations like the Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters Union and various trade apprenticeship programs providing information on alternative professional routes. By connecting students directly with a wide array of local business owners and recruitment officers, the district demonstrated its continued commitment to career-focused education and student success.
