Kearny Fire Department to host Open House Thursday, Oct. 1

By Kearny Life staff

The Kearny Fire Department will open its doors to the community Thursday, Oct. 1, for an evening of demonstrations and hands-on fire safety education for residents of all ages.

The department’s Open House will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kearny Fire Headquarters, 109 Midland Ave. The event is free and open to the public.

Visitors will have an opportunity to meet local firefighters while getting an up-close look at some of the equipment and techniques they use on the job. Demonstrations will include vehicle extrication, showing how firefighters rescue people from damaged vehicles, as well as a fire sprinkler demonstration.

A fire hose station will also be part of the evening’s activities, giving visitors a closer look at one of the most recognizable tools used by firefighters.

Fire safety education will be a major focus of the event, with activities designed to help children and families learn how to prepare for and respond to a fire emergency.

The open house is part of the department’s effort to encourage residents to “Charge Into Fire Safety” by learning, practicing and being ready in the event of a fire.
